Additional 10 newly qualified junior doctors join the Trust

FiY1s 23rd April.jpg10 additional newly qualified junior doctors have been welcomed into the Trust earlier than usual as part of the UK’s response to COVID-19, bringing the total to 21 Foundation Year 1 posts (FiY1).

Newly qualified doctors usually start their Foundation Training Programme in August but at this time of national crisis they have been able to volunteer onto the programme early. The doctors will be supporting the clinical workforce in providing important patient care particularly when clinical teams are stretched.

Liz Klein said:

“The new recruits will be working in a variety of clinical wards caring for both Covid-19 and non Covid-19 patients and will be based at the Cumberland Infirmary. They will be shadowing existing junior doctors, sharing the workload and undertaking relevant clinical tasks.”FiY1s 30th April.jpg

Nearly half of the 21 junior doctors are expected to stay at the Trust after August, when their programme officially starts.

The Trust has also recently welcomed final year nursing students recently who have chosen to come and work with the Trust (See article) and we are expecting more student nurses to join us in the coming weeks.
