As work continues to build our new endoscopy unit at the Cumberland Infirmary patients, visitors and staff will notice changes in accessing parts of our site this week.
From Wednesday 12th June, the bus stop at the main entrance will be moved to the opposite site of the road and hoarding will be put up in front of the cancer centre as the building work starts.
This means some changes to the road layout, pedestrian access from the car parks and access to nuclear medicine. On Tuesday 11th June, the CIC site will be prepared to enable the bus stop to be moved to the opposite side of the road and road markings for a new layout will be made overnight
From Wednesday 12th June:
- Roundabout 1 will no longer be a full roundabout for cars and will be bus only. No entry signs will be displayed to help car drivers.
- From the drop off area at the main entrance, cars will need to drive towards the bottom of the roundabout 2 to turn back up the site.
- The bus stop will be moved to the other side of the road. The bus shelter will be in place a week later.
- The hoarding will be erected around the site of the new endoscopy build. This will block off the whole pavement from the current car park entrance to the cancer centre drop off area. Access to the quiet garden and the access to the bottom entrance to the link corridor will also be blocked.
- Patients who need to access the nuclear medicine services will be directed towards the doors closer to the car park in the link corridor. Cancer centre patients will also be directed to this entrance to access the cancer centre from the lower ground floor.
- For patients who need to go from the main car park to the main hospital; a zebra crossing will be in place from the main car park across to the left hand side of the site so they are able to walk on the pavements.
- Access to A&E remains unaffected
Please see the image to see the changes.
Signage will be in place across the site to explain these changes and we are grateful for your patience and understanding while we undertake these important works.
