A charity head shave has raised more than £500 for the Penrith Hospital League of Friends.

Harold Mason, 72, had his locks shaved off at Kirkby Kutz in Kirkby Stephen at the weekend for charity - and raised £515.72.

Clare Martindale, Team Leader for Upper Eden District Nurses, said: “As community staff for NCIC the League of Friends support us all the time and are an excellent local resource not only for the District Nursing team but also for the midwifery team, Eden unit and minor injuries unit.

Harold, of Wharton, near Kirkby Stephen, started raising cash when his wife, Liz, was having surgery and treatment for lung cancer.

He raised £1,000 in 2018 and even though his wife sadly died, Harold was determined to continue with his fundraising mission.

He said: “I just like to do my bit.”

The money raised will help support the district and community nursing teams.
