The maternity team a North Cumbria Integrated Care are celebrating after receiving three awards from the University of Central Lancashire. The awards were voted for by the medical students of UCLan and are a huge achievement for the Trust and the team involved.

Students were asked for feedback during the academic year and asked to vote in the UCLan student awards for the best educators, mentors and placement locations. The Women’s Health placements at NCIC were voted the winners. Best placement location was granted to Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Best EHD Tutor Award was given to Mr Jamjute who works at the Trust as an O&G Consultant and Best educator on placement was awarded to Dr Rahman an O&G Specialist Doctor.

Dr Jamjute, who has worked in the Trust since 2017, expressed his delight at receiving the award and explained more about his role as EHD Tutor saying:

“This is fantastic news; I have always had a real interest in education and believe what we offer the students here at NCIC is a well-rounded approach. I teach theory at the Westlakes campus which is then complimented by the hand on practical learning the students do in the hospital. My main aim is to make the students feel safe and confident whilst completing their training with us. We get a lot of International students and we want to welcome them to the area whilst also taking into consideration their cultural diversity, it’s important to me that the students feel supported. I hope that some of these students go on to take a position here at NCIC”.

One such student who completed training with Mr Jamjute is Physician Associate, Abi Ogden. Abi completed her training last year and took a role in the Emergency Department at the West Cumberland Hospital, Abi said of the training she received from Mr Jamjute and the department:

“Mr Jamjute is a great educator, as a student he speaks to you as an equal, asking your opinion on cases and appreciative of any input that you have. He teaches as he works in a friendly way, and answers any questions that you have. I spent time with him in Obstetrics & Gynaecology, but also in his Urology and Urodynamic clinic, he really allows you to get stuck in and fully enjoy your placement. I am not surprised, therefore, he has been voted as best medical educator, well done Mr Jamjute”.

The O&G department hope that they can maintain their reputation as a centre of excellence for students to learn and develop and want to thank the students of UCLan for choosing them as their winners!
