Have you ever considered volunteering for your local NHS?
We have a wide variety of volunteer opportunities available including supporting stroke patients in the speech after stroke service, supporting digital services and supporting the teams in our A&E departments.
Layla Wilson is the Volunteer Recruitment and Compliance Lead at NCIC. She said: “Volunteering is a great way to support the NHS and get involved in your community.
“Volunteers make a unique and valuable contribution to patients, carers, visitors and staff across the NHS. Volunteers are an essential resource in helping the NHS and NCIC achieve its goals!”
The Trust currently has many different volunteering roles and more than 120 active volunteers supporting our services on a daily basis.
Layla explains why people should consider volunteering:
“Volunteering provides many benefits to both mental and physical health. It can help to prevent stress, isolation and anxiety. The social contact that comes from helping and working with others will have a positive effect on your overall psychological well-being, and is extremely rewarding."
Other benefits of Volunteering with the NHS:
- Increase your sense of well-being.
- Feel that you are contributing to someone else's well-being.
- Participate in a wider social life.
- Increase your knowledge of health.
- Learn new skills.
- Get relevant training.
- Learn from and are supported by NHS staff.
- Gain experience in an NHS environment.
You can find all of our current volunteer vacancies or fill out an expression of Interest Form.
“We are currently recruiting a team of Emergency Department Volunteers to help with COVID procedures as patients enter the department. Attendances at NCIC’s emergency departments remain high - just like the rest of the UK - and our staff are working under significant pressure. Therefore volunteers will help relieve that.”
Barry Norris, Meet & Greet Volunteer
Barry Norris, Meet & Greet Volunteer said: “I like to volunteer to help people – especially people who are at a disadvantage. I’ve been volunteering for 20 years with other organisations and I’ve been volunteering here for one year. I enjoy knowing that I’ve had the pleasure of helping people and helping out in the community. Even though I suffer from an illness myself, I still like to help others. I work with a nice bunch of staff and also the staff around the hospital. I’ll do anything for anybody. I’d like to thank all the people I’ve worked with for giving us the opportunity to volunteer for them.”
