This booklet aims to give you information that will help prepare you for your stay in Elective Care Suite as a Day Case Patient. If you have any questions regarding your stay, please contact the hospital on the number provided on your admission letter.
How to cancel your admission
If you need to rearrange your admission or feel unwell please let the hospital know as soon as possible. If you turn down more than two admissions, you will be referred back to your G.P. If your appointment was booked by the hospital there will be telephone number on the bottom of your letter, otherwise contact 01228 810709 to cancel your booking.
Before your admission
Please let us know if you need any extra help or assistance:
- Spoken interpreter or British Sign Language interpreter.
- Wheelchairs can be found at the front entrance.
- Please bring with you your admission letter, complete with details of GP and any helpful telephone contacts.
- Bring with you an overnight bag in case you do stay in overnight.
- Also, bring any medications that you take.
- Details of transport home and you are required to arrange someone to be with you for 24hrs after discharge if you are having a general anaesthetic.
Travelling and parking at the hospital
On the day of your admission, if you are getting a lift you can be dropped off at the front of the main entrance of the hospital. Hospital transport can be arranged, this service is ran by North West Ambulance Service phone number 0800 032 3240. If you are using this service you will need your NHS number, your GP can give you this.
Please make your own arrangements for transport if you can
If you are dropping off a patient, you can park for free for 20 minutes outside the main entrance. Car parking is available at all hospitals with automatic number plate recognition (ANPR), this means visitors will no longer need to collect a ticket or pay and display on arrival, they will simply need to park their car in any available space and make their way to the main hospital. The system automatically reads your number plate when you enter the car park. Upon leaving there are a variety of different payment options.
Each hospital site have designated free parking for registered disabled drivers, displaying a blue badge. Any parking enquiries call 01228 523444.
Admission and your stay in Elective Care Suite
Take a seat outside Elective Care Suite, in the yellow zone first door on the left after the main entrance to the hospital. A member of staff will call your name for admission. Visitors are not allowed into the unit unless you are a carer or are helping the patent.
In the Elective Care Suite, you will be admitted by the nursing team and be seen by the Surgeon and Anaesthetist. You will then wait for your operation, the admission time is the time you are required to be in the department and not the time you will get your procedure.
Consent and confidentiality
At all times your stay within the Elective Care Suite and the information you share with the team will be treated with respect and confidentiality.
You may also complete and sign a consent form for your operation if you have not done so before. The staff are here for you and you can ask them at any time for advice and share your concerns confidentially.
Discharge
Before you are discharged from the Elective Care Suite as a day patient, you will have to meet the discharge criteria which the staff will go through with you. You will be given all necessary information and advice regarding your procedure.
Please make sure you have a lift home and an adult to accompany you and stay with you for the 24hrs following your procedure.
