Buccolam is a form of Midazolam that is used to treat prolonged seizure activity in adults and children. It is known as Midazolam oromucosal solution. It comes in a ready made syringe and the medicine is placed in the mouth between the lower gum and cheek. This means it is works quickly as the medicine is absorbed through the mouth.

Midazolam is type of medicine known as a benzodiazepine. It can cause sleepiness, drowsiness and unsteadiness. You should not drive, drink alcohol or use machinery until effects have completely worn off.

You will need some assistance to be given Buccolam and ideally need some supervision afterwards until the effects have worn off. An Emergency Health Care Plan may also be available to guide and instruct you, your family and any professionals regarding the use.

Only give Buccolam to the person that it has been prescribed and exactly as the healthcare professional has advised.
