- permanent hearing loss
- speech or language difficulties
- temporary hearing loss due to conditions like glue ear
- tinnitus
If your child has been referred to us, we’ll invite you both in for an assessment. Depending on how old your child is, we might ask a few questions about their hearing and any related conditions they might have. We might also do a few different hearing tests during your appointment.
The type of tests we do depend on the age and ability of the child or young person.
Some of the more common tests we do are:
- play audiometry
- pure tone audiometry
- visual reinforcement audiometry (VRA)
You can read more about what these tests involve here.
Once we’ve done the tests, we’ll explain the results and give you a copy of them to take home. We’ll go through your options in detail and decide on the best treatment. We might also refer you and your child to other services such as:
- Ear, nose and throat (ENT)
- Paediatrics
- Speech and language
